The types of foundations
The choice of foundation type is the culmination of the geotechnical study: it depends on the soil characteristics (bearing capacity, compressibility, depth of the good ground), the structure (loads, sensitivity to settlement) and the context (water table, seismicity, neighbourhood). Foundations are distinguished as shallow (footings, raft), semi-deep (wells, micropiles) and deep (piles, barrettes).
