The types of retaining structures
Retaining structures take up the thrust of the soil in cuts and fills, in natural sites or in dense urban areas. The choice depends on the height, the context (presence of water, neighbourhood, service life), and footprint constraints. Three main families: gravity structures, flexible structures, reinforced-soil structures.
